UW Wrestlers Fall Short to #8 Arizona State

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

On Friday night, January 29, the Pokes fell to #8 ranked Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz., 27-14. Wyoming won four matches, including the first two of the night. Craig Rumsey (197) and Abe Boomer (HWT) both the won thier matches to give Wyoming an 8-0 lead in the dual. Rumsey defeated Philip Alejandrino 8-2 and Boomer won by technical fall 18-2 over Jed Jobe.

Matt Winninger (157) and Brandon Dansie (174) also won their matches for Wyoming. Winninger defeated Jose Moreno 2-0 and Dansie won 7-4 over John Groundwater.

Chris Bouchard (125), Chris Walker (133), Kelly McConville (141), Justin Gonzales (149), Brian Wood (165) and Steve Schenk (184) all wrestled and lost their matches.

Arizona State had four ranked wrestlers in action, and all were victorious. ASU had two pins, one technical fall and one major decision for the difference. With the loss, Wyomings 1998-99 dual record fell to 4-5-1.

The next action for Wyoming is Feb. 11 against Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. Then on Feb. 13, the Cowboys return home to dual with Boise State at 7:00 p.m.
