The University of Wyoming wrestling team improved their dual mark to 8-7 when the beat the Air Force Falcons 33-12 in the UniWyo Sports Complex, on Friday night. The Pokes managed to take six of the eight matches wrestled, with three of the victories by way of pin.

The Cowboys came out ready to go on this senior night. Junior Gary Dack got things rolling when he pinned Zack Lord at the 4:51 mark in the 165 pound bout. Wyoming sophomore Bryan Bernal followed suit and pinned Stephen Crozier at the 2:35 mark. These two wins put the Pokes up 12-0, before a Wyoming forfeit at 184 pounds cut the lead to 12-6.

Next up, were the four seniors who were honored before Friday night's match for all their hard work and dedication. At 197 pounds, Malcolm Havens' early 10-1 lead on Brenden McLean proved to be enough as Havens won 10-7. Dusty Hoffschneider was next to go as he faced Frank McGrath in the heavyweight match. This was a hard fought win for Hoffschneider, as the match came down to a late escape by him that proved to be the difference in a 3-2 decision.

Air Force then did not allow Bryce Leonhardt to compete in his final home dual when they forfeited the 125 pound match. In the toughest match of the night, Tyson Shatto took to the mat against Brandon Strong. A late takedown by Strong forced the match to go into overtime. In a period where the first one to score wins, Strong managed a quick takedown on Shatto to give him the win, 8-6.

In the next match at 141 pounds, freshman Shay Lawrence went up against Jake Kriegbaum of Air Force. Lawrence battled throughout the match only to fall just short in a 3-0 decision.

The 149 pound bout featured UW sophomore Carter Downing against Chris Nissen. Downing came out fired up to lead 10-4 after the first period. He then just held off Nissen to win by decision, 16-9. In the final match of the evening, sophomore Kyle Dye posted his ninth pin of the year when he pinned Bridger Lord at the 3:55 mark to seal the win for the Cowboys, 33-12.

"I think Gary's (Dack) early pin really sparked the rest of the team and got us going," said head coach Steven Suder. "This was a great way to end the regular season before regionals and was great win for our seniors."

The Cowboys will be off from competition until they host the 2006 NCAA West Regional, on March 5. The tournament is set to begin at 12 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium.
