Wrestlers Defeat Falcons

February 22, 1999

On Friday night, February 19, the University of Wyoming wrestling team defeated the Falcons of Air Force 19-18, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Both teams won five matches apiece, but a major decision and a pin helped lead Wyoming to victory.

Craig Rumsey started the match off with a huge win, defeating Joe Beauregard 12-1. That victory gave Rumsey 23 wins on the season. Next up, heavyweight Abe Boomer defeated Phil Johnston 11-9 and 125-pounder Chris Bouchard won his match 9-4. Then Chris Walker pinned Andy Peters at 2:58 to give Wyoming a 16-0 lead. But Wyoming would win only one more match to give the Cowboys a one-point victory. Matt Winninger at 157-pounds earned the last victory. Winninger defeated Alex Pelbath 4-1. Kelly McConville (141), Justin Gonzales (149), Brian Wood (165), Jeremy Sell (174) and Steve Schenk (184) all competed for the Pokes but lost their matches.
