Hamrick Done At NCAA Wrestling Championships

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Wyoming senior Corey Hamrick waseliminated from the NCAA Wrestling Championships today in St. Louis,Mo. Hamrick lost his first two matches in the double eliminationtournament.

To start the day Hamrick lost to Brad Wright of Ohio University 5-2.In the wrestle-back round, Hamrick lost to Scott Bair of Lock Haven16-2.

Hamrick entered the tournament with a 24-11 record, and he had beennationally ranked all year in the 133 pound weight class. He was ranked#19 going in the NCAA Championships. This was Hamrick's first trip tonationals, but he was an alternate qualifier out of the Western AthleticConference as a freshman.

Lost to Scott Bair (Lock Haven) 16-2 (eliminated)

"I'm very proud of Corey's accomplishment's this season," said Wyominghead coach Steven Suder. "He is the true epitome of a Cowboy, both onthe mat and off of it. Although he wasn't as successful as he hoped, herepresented the University of Wyoming well."

Hamrick, a native of Wheatland, Wyo., ends his senior year with a 24-13overall record. In his career at UW, Hamrick won 85 matches. Already agraduate, Hamrick is nearing completion of his master's degree atWyoming.

The season is now complete for the Wyoming wrestling team. The Cowboyswere 8-8 in duals this season and placed sixth at the Western Regionalon March 4. The Pokes will welcome the return of five starters to nextyear's squad.
