Cowboy Wrestlers Complete Competition At NCAA Championships

March 19, 2004

St. Louis, Missouri - The four remaining Cowboy wrestlers wrapped up their seasons on Friday at the 2004 NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis, Missouri.

At 157 pounds, senior Andrew Shuler (Madison Heights, Virginia) closed out his week with a 3-2 loss to Matt Lee of West Virginia. Shuler ends his season with an overall record of 29-7. Sophomore Dustin Hoffschneider had a tough 5-3 loss in the heavyweight bracket to Bill Stouffer of Central Michigan to end the year with a record of 13-6 overall. Kevin Kessner's day started out promising as he won his first match of the day over Matt Monteiro, 5-1, in the consolation bracket, but he came up short 6-2 against a tough Matt Greenberg of Cornell. Kessner ends his year with a mark of 12-4 overall.

The bright spot on the day for the Cowboys was senior Levi Prevost at the 165 pound weight class. A native of Sidney, Montana, Prevost started off the day strong with a 19-3 major decision over Craig Pequignot of Millersville and then followed it up with a 6-1 win over John Sioredas of UT-Chattanooga. Unfortunately his luck would run out as Prevost fell to John Clark of Ohio State 7-6 falling just short of moving into All-American status. He wraps up this year with an overall record of 24-6.

The Cowboys finished the year with an overall dual record of 10-5 overall.
