The University of Wyomingwrestling team kicked off the 1999-2000 season with its annualintrasquad scrimmage. There were 27 matches on the night in WarMemorial Fieldhouse.
Senior Corey Hamrick looked impressive coming off of his redshirt yeargoing 3-0. The Wheatland, Wyo., native will be a force for Wyoming at133 pounds.
Some other Cowboys who are expected to see lots of action also lookedvery good. Brandon Dansie (174/184), Cisco Gonzales (125), Mark Hamrick(149) and Craig Rumsey (197) all went 2-0 on the night.
?I was real encouraged by what I saw from the freshman,? saidUniversity of Wyoming head wrestling coach Steven Suder. ?It was alsoobvious to me that some of the returning guys went out there with aplan, they were on a mission.
?This first one is hard, against your own guys. With that, you don?talways see somebody using all of their skill. But I wasn't disappointedat all, there were some real battles out there.
?This is the first step in developing our team. The Cowboy Open nextweekend is another big step. But next Saturday we have to designate tenguys to wrestle for us, and we'll do it.?
The next action for the Cowboys is Nov. 13, when they dual with theColorado School of Mines at 1:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Gymnasium.On Nov. 14, Wyoming hosts the Cowboy Open in War Memorial Fieldhouse,which begins at 10:00 a.m.
