Against a powerful No. 2 Minnesota squad, the University of Wyoming wrestling team was victorious in two bouts but stayed winless as a team on the young season Saturday, as UM upended No. 25 Wyoming, 30-7.

Wyoming (0-2 overall) drew within three points after three bouts, but Minnesota (2-0 overall) won the next six matches to outdistance the Pokes and stay unbeaten on its trip to the Rockies. Earlier in the day, Minnesota defeated Western Wrestling Conference member Air Force 28-15.

"I told the guys afterward that I couldn't imagine it going any worse," UW head coach Mark Branch said. "We lacked toughness. A lot of the areas that we've focused on, we looked weak.

"If you're not progressing against a team like Minnesota, you're going to see what we saw. I respect Minnesota and the schedule that we have, but I don't accept going out and performing at that level. We didn't go out there and earn anything. They've got to decide to change."

Sophomore Drew Templeman used two takedowns, an escape and a riding-time point to defeat UM's Jordan Kinglsey at 133 pounds in a 7-2 decision. Templeman won his first dual bout of the season and now is 3-2 overall.

After Gopher wins in the next six weights, senior Shane Woods (197) gave UW fans something to cheer about in the evening's finale when he defeated Chris Pfarr with a dominant 16-6 major decision. Woods has gone 6-1 this season.

"Shane opened up and put together a solid match," Branch said. "Hitting a nice swing single in the first 10 seconds of the match - that was a positive. He looked crisp and wrestled a hard pace."

Minnesota gained momentum when UM earned an upset win at 125 pounds. Gopher Sam Brancale defeated UW senior Tyler Cox, ranked eighth, in a 17-11 decision. Cox has lost just eight times in the last two seasons.

Up next, the Pokes will compete in the Journeyman Duals on Nov. 29 in Troy, N.Y.
