Wyoming Wrestling Hosts Cowboy Open

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Wyoming hosted the annual Cowboy Open on Sunday.Eight mats were in use throughout the day in War Memorial Fieldhouse.Steven Schenk won the 174-pound title with a 4-2 victory over R.D.Purcell of Arizona State. Schenk went 3-0 on his way to the title.Brian Wood took second in the 157-pound class. Wood lost thechampionship match 8-2 against Larry Quisel of Boise State. CoreyHamrick (133), Craig Rumsey (197) and Brad Steele (HWT) all placed thirdin their respective weight classes. Jeremy Sell (165), Brandon Dansie(174) and Kevin Kessner (184) were all fourth. In the 20 and underdivision, freshman Jon Rosas won the heavyweight class. In round robinaction, Rosas went 3-0. Matt Westenfelder (165) was third while JohnFaczak (133) and Chad Plummer (149) took fourth. Larry Quisel won theMost Outstanding Wrestler Award and Keith Blaske of Fort Hays Stateearned the Most Falls Award.
