Wyoming Wrestlers Compete At Pair Of Tournaments

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyomingwrestling team was split this weekend and competed at two differenttournaments, the Kaufman-Brand Open in Omaha, Neb., and the SouthernColorado Open in Pueblo, Colo.

At the Kaufman-Brand Open, four Pokes finished in fourth-place in theirrespective weight classes in the open division. Mark Hamrick (149),Jeremy Sell (165), Brandon Dansie (174) and Craig Rumsey (197) all tookfourth.

Steven Schenk (174) finished fifth and Cisco Gonzales (125) was sixth.

In the 20 and under division, Wyoming freshman Matt Westenfelder wonthe consolation bracket and finished in third-place at 165-pounds.Westenfelder went 6-1 on the day.

The Cowboys sent eight wrestlers to the Southern Colorado Open. Theeight were mostly freshman and sophomores looking to gain valuableexperience.

Although no Pokes placed in the tournament, they were led by JeremyLaPorte (125) and Chad Plummer (149). The next action for Wyoming isDec. 3-4 at the Las Vegas Invitational.
