Laramie, Wyo. -- The University of Wyomingwrestling team battled through some tough competition at the CliffKeen Las Vegas Invite Friday in Las Vegas, Nev. All the Cowboys wereknocked out on the first day in one of the largest collegiatetournaments of the season. Wrestlers from over 40 colleges anduniversities were featured in the two day invitational, which was heldat the Cashman Center.
The two Pokes that would post the best records were junior PatrickShuler and sophomore Gary Dack, which both went 2-2. The 149 poundShuler won one of his matches by major decision against Ahmed Joumaaof Eastern Michigan. Dack, at 165 pounds, won both of his matches bydecision and his two losses came from #3 and #17 ranked wrestlers inthe nation at 165 pounds.
Other Cowboys to find wins were Bryce Leonhardt (125 pounds), CarterDowning (141 pounds), Dan Clum (157 pounds), and Jason Still (Hwt.).Leonhardt's victory came by major decision and Clum's win come bypin at 1:11.
"It kind of went in cycles. We started out with five or six wins ina row, then we probably lost five or six in a row before we wonanother one," said Wyoming's wrestling coach Steven Suder.
The Cowboys will stick around for the second day of competitionbefore heading back home. They will have next weekend off beforetraveling to Lincoln, Neb. for the Husker Duals on Saturday, Dec. 18.
