The University of Wyoming wrestling team competed at the 2005 Brute Reno Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nev., on Sunday.
Sophomore Carter Downing and senior Malcolm Havens were two Cowboys that both came away with three victories on the day. In the 149 pound bracket, Downing finished in fourth place with two of his three wins coming by technical fall. Havens recorded a 3-2 record in the 197 pound bracket with one victory coming by pin and another by major decision. The senior was one win away from placing in the pretigious event.
Senior Dusty Hoffschneider and sophomore Kyle Dye both finished the day with two wins each. Hoffschneider registered his first pin of the season in his first match, while following that up with another win. However, the heavyweight would drop his next two matches to finish the day with a 2-2 record. Dye also managed a 2-2 record by earning one of those wins with his eighth pin of the season and the other by major decision.
Senior Tyson Shatto, and redshirt freshman Cody Grant and Dan Barrone were other Cowboys that finished the day with victories. All three finished the day with 1-2 records, with all winning their second matches of the day.
The Wyoming wrestlers will not be in competition for the holiday season, but will return to action on January 4 when they travel to Boise, Idaho to dual Boise State.
