UW Wrestlers Begin New Year On Road Versus Nebraska

After a two-week break from competition, the University of Wyoming wrestling team gets back at it Friday with a tough matchup on the road against No. 8 Nebraska.

The details
The first match begins at 6 p.m. MT Friday from the Bob Devaney Sports Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska. Matches will be televised on the Big Ten Digital Network and live dual results can be found on TrackWrestling.com.

A look at the Cowboys
Wyoming is 1-3 this season and hopes for its second road victory of the year. All three losses have come at the hands of ranked opponents, including No. 2 Minnesota, No. 5 Oklahoma State and No. 24 Oregon State. The Cowboys own a 17-15 victory over Boise State to begin the season.

Three Cowboys are in the national rankings, including junior Tyler Cox (10th at 125 pounds), junior Andy McCulley (No. 19 at 157) and redshirt freshman Benjamin Stroh, who is 15th at 184.

A look at the Huskers
Nebraska, ranked eighth by Amateur Wrestling News, is 5-0 this season with wins over Northwestern, South Dakota State, Utah Valley, Stanford and CSU Bakersfield.

Nebraska has ranked wrestlers at 125 pounds (No. 12 Tim Lambert), 141 (No. 16 Anthony Abidin), 149 (No. 5 Jake Sueflohn), 157 (No. 3 James Green), 165 (No. 16 Austin Wilson), 174 (No. 4 Robert Kokesh) and 184 (No. 17 T.J. Dudley).

Last time/series history
A late rally wasn't enough for UW on Nov. 11, 2012, as the Pokes suffered a 22-15 defeat to the Huskers. Wins from Alfonso Hernandez, Cox, Tanner Harms and Kasey Garnhart made it a 16-15 score, but Nebraska won the last two bouts to secure the win.

In 47 meetings, UW has gone 14-33 versus Nebraska. The most recent victory came Jan. 17, 2010, when the Pokes won 29-10 in Lincoln.
