LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Wyoming wrestling program will get back into the swing of the dual portion of its season this weekend as it heads to California.
The 'Pokes (4-3 overall, 0-0 WWC) will take on Cal Poly, San Francisco State and Cal State Fullerton over a span of three days. Wyoming starts off in San Luis Obispo, Calif., on Friday and will wrestle the Mustangs. On Sunday, the Cowboys will hit the mats in Fullerton, Calif., for duals against the Gators and the Titans.
Cal Poly - The Mustangs are 4-0 in duals this season, with wins over Cal State Fullerton, Southern Oregon, Cal Baptist and Menlo. In its most recent event, Cal Poly finished 11th in the team standings at the Midlands Championships.
Cal State Fullerton - The Titans are 0-5 in duals this season, with losses versus Cal Poly, Stanford, Arizona State, Minnesota and Cal State Bakersfield. They also were 19th in the Reno Tournament of Champions.
San Francisco State - The Gators are 2-4 in duals this year, with wins versus Findlay and Western State, and losses to Cal State Bakersfield, Augustana, Central Oklahoma and Minnesota State.
Wyoming and Cal Poly each have wrestlers ranked in the top 20 of the latest InterMat polls. Wyoming has Tyler Cox, ranked 20th at 125 pounds; Cole Dallaserra, ranked 20th at 149 pounds; Shane Onufer, ranked sixth at 165 pounds; and Joe LeBlanc, ranked sixth at 184 pounds. Cal Poly features Filip Novachkov, ranked 10th at 133 pounds; Boris Navochkov, ranked fourth at 141 pounds; and Ryan DesRoches, ranked 17th at 165 pounds.
Last season, the 'Pokes beat the Titans 28-13 in Laramie. Wyoming is 6-5 versus the Titans all-time. The Cowboys are 0-3 all-time versus Cal Poly, with the last meeting coming in 1992. This weekend marks the first-ever meeting with San Francisco State.
