LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The end of the regular season is in sight for the University of Wyoming wrestling team, as the Cowboys will make a road trip to the Dakotas for their final conference duals.
First up is a visit to Brookings, S.D., to face the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State on Thursday. After that, it's a trip up Interstate 29 to Fargo, N.D., to take on the North Dakota State Bison on Friday. Both duals will begin at 6 p.m. MT.
The Jacks are 4-8 overall and 0-5 in Western Wrestling Conference action. SDSU has wins over Davidson, Northern State, Southwest Minnesota State and SIU Edwardsville. Individually, Aaron Pickrel is ranked 29th in the latest NCAA Coaches' Poll at 125 pounds.
The Bison are 6-8 overall and 3-2 in the WWC. Some notable wins include Utah Valley, Air Force, Arizona State and The Citadel. Three NDSU wrestlers are in the latest NCAA Coaches' Poll, including Trent Sprenkle (20th at 125 pounds), Steven Monk (10th, 157) and Mac Stoll (32nd, 184.)
The Cowboys hold a 12-0 all-time advantage over SDSU, and are 7-4 all-time versus NDSU.
What's at stake
The Pokes (8-3 overall, 4-0 WWC) will aim to keep their conference record flawless. If Wyoming wins both duals, it would clinch the regular-season WWC title for UW with a 6-0 conference mark. Each of the six other WWC teams has at least one conference loss.
Wyoming has won or shared two regular-season titles in the last three years under head coach Mark Branch.
