The regular season will come to a close Thursday night for the University of Wyoming wrestling team, as the 22nd-ranked Pokes host conference foe Air Force in a dual in Cheyenne, Wyo.
The event will be hosted in Storey Gym, a multi-purpose facility. The dual is billed as "Throw Down Thursday." The first 300 fans will receive a trucker-style UW hat, while the first 1,000 get a pom-pom.
Advance tickets to the event are available by calling 1-877-996-3261, but tickets also will be available at the door. Door prices are as follows: $6 for adults, $3 for ages 3 through 18, age 2 and younger are free.
A look at the Cowboys
Wyoming, ranked No. 22 in the latest NWCA/USA Today/AWN poll, hopes to rebound after suffering two losses last weekend in the NWCA National Duals. Now 8-6 overall, UW will try to finish 4-1 in Western Wrestling Conference action.
Seven Pokes in the probable lineup have won at least 15 matches this season. Cox is 28-7, McCulley is 26-6, Hernandez is 28-1, sophomore Dakota Friesth is 15-16 at 165, senior L.J. Helbig is 19-10 at 174, sophomore Shane Woods is 22-12 at 184 and sophomore Zach Zehner is 15-7 at 141.
A look at the Falcons
The Falcons have some talented wrestlers in their lineup, including 125-pound Josh Martinez, 149-pound Cole VonOhlen and 157-pound Josh Kreimier, all of whom have spent time in the national rankings.
In duals, AF has beaten Cal Poly, Stanford and Northern Iowa this season and is 10-3 overall and 1-2 in league action.
Last meeting/series history
On Feb. 2, 2012, the Cowboys won nine out of 10 matches to defeat the Falcons 32-6. Wyoming is 36-12 versus Air Force since 1958.
