Full NCAA Release

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The NCAA released Thursday the third Coaches' Panel Rankings and a second release of the ratings percentage index (RPI) for the 2015-16 wrestling season. The NCAA also released the qualifier allocations for the NCAA Championships with the Big 12 Conference awarded 36 spots.

The final rankings and RPI will be two of the tools used as part of the selection process to determine the qualifiers and seeding for the 2016 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. This year's event is March 17-19 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Three Cowboys are ranked in the Coaches' Panel Rankings with all three remaining in the same spot from the previous ranking. Sophomore Bryce Meredith is the highest ranked Cowboy coming in at 12th at 141 pounds. Junior Drew Templeman, who is in his first season at 125 pounds ranks 17th. Senior Tanner Harms, a returning NCAA qualifier ranks 19th at heavyweight.

Four Cowboys are ranked in the preliminary release of the RPI. Meredith is ranked fifth at 141 pounds to lead the Cowboys. Harms is 12th at 285 pounds. Templeman moved into the RPI rankings this week coming in at 19th. Junior Archie Colgan is ranked 22nd at 157 pounds.

The NCAA announced that the Big 12 Conference will receive 36 automatic bids to the NCAA Championship. Those 36 bids will be up for grabs at the Big 12 Conference Championship next weekend at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. The Cowboys were part of the NCAA West Regional last season, which was only awarded 19 automatic bids to the NCAA Championship.

Each qualifying tournament was awarded spots per weight class based on current year data. Each wrestler was measured on the following: Division I winning percentage at the weight class; rating percentage index (RPI); and coaches ranking.

For each wrestler that reached the threshold in at least two of the three categories, his qualifying tournament was awarded a qualifying spot in that weight class. Each qualifying tournament, with automatic qualifying status, was awarded a minimum of one wrestler per weight class, which will go to the tournament champion, even if they did not have any wrestlers reach at least two of the three thresholds. NCAA tournament spots for each qualifying event will be awarded at the tournament based solely on place-finish.

After all of the qualifying events have concluded, the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee will meet in-person to select the remaining 46 at-large qualifiers, which will be announced on March 9. All weight classes will consist of 33 wrestlers. The at-large selections will be made based on the following criteria: head-to-head competition; quality wins; coaches ranking; results against common opponents; RPI; qualifying event placement; and winning percentage.
