Wyoming's Wrestling Honored For Academics

Wyoming's Nick Ramirez and Cory VomBaur were named to the Western Wrestling Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2006-07 season earlier this week. To qualify for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, student-athletes had to maintain a 3.0 grade point average and be a starter or key reserve for their respective teams.

Ramirez, a redshirt freshman, maintained a 3.079 GPA in Engineering for the Cowboys this season. He finished the year with a 22-15 overall record and 5-0 in WWC action, two pins, two technical falls and two major decisions. Ramirez finished second at the West Region Tournament and earned a bid into the NCAA Championships.

VomBaur, also a redshirt freshman, maintained a 3.031 GPA in Secondary Education, Social Studies. He finished the year with a 17-15 overall record and 4-1 in WWC action and one pin. VomBaur also earned a bid in to the NCAA Championships after the West Region Tournament.

Both Ramirez and VomBaur earned wild card selections to compete in the NCAA Championships.

The 2006-07 season marked the inaugural year of the Western Wrestling Conference which is comprised of seven schools including, Air Force, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, Utah Valley State and Wyoming. The conference was formed in April 2006.
