Pendleton Earns Big Win In `United 4 Wrestling'

May 20, 2013

LOS ANGELES - Wyoming wrestling assistant coach Chris Pendleton was victorious Sunday in an international exhibition dual featuring wrestlers from the United States, Russia and Canada.

With the win from Pendleton, the U.S. men's and women's teams went a combined 7-4 in the freestyle dual, dubbed "United 4 Wrestling," in Los Angeles. The event served as a way to support the fight to keep wrestling in the Olympics.

Pendleton defeated Canada's Manjot Sandhu in an 11-0 technical fall at 96 kilograms (211.5 pounds) in less than two minutes.

Clayton Foster, another competitor associated with Wyoming wrestling, was scheduled to compete at 84 kilograms (185 pounds) but withdrew due to a leg injury. Foster is a volunteer assistant with the program.

Originally, the event was slated to pit the U.S. versus Iran, but the Iranian team elected not to compete, so the Russian and Canadian teams competed instead.

Up next for Pendleton and Foster are the U.S. World Team Trials in June in Stillwater, Okla., which serve as a qualifier for the World Championships. The World Team Trials are similar to the Olympic Trials in a non-Olympic year.
