A Look Ahead: The season is complete for the Cowboy wrestling team. The team concluded its season this past weekend at the NCAA Championships in State College, Penn.

Wyoming individual results: All of Wyoming's five qualifiers were eliminated after the second day of action at the NCAA Championships. Matt Winninger and Steve Schenk were the last two to be elimated, as each went 1-2. Brian Wood, Craig Rumsey and Abe Boomer all went 0-2. Winninger (157) won his first match 10-3 over Brian Olenek of Lock Haven. Then Winninger lost to #2 Chad Kraft of Minnesota 5-3 and Eric Jorgensen of Oregon State 5-4. Schenk (184) lost his first match 11-5 to #5 Brad Vering of Nebraska, but bounced back to win his second match over Todd Palmisano of Rider 6-3. Schenk was then eliminated by Ken Bigley of Northern Iowa 9-4. Wood (165) lost to #3 Don Pritzlaff of Wisconsin 15-4 and Ben Uker of Iowa 16-7. Sophomore Craig Rumsey came up short against #4 Zach Thompson of Iowa State 3-2 and Justin Woodruff of Navy 10-8. Abe Boomer, a transfer from Nebraska, lost to Bronson Lingamfeiter of Brown 8-3 and Sean Hage of West Virginia by fall at 2:11.

Cowboy finish in tie for 56th: Wyoming finished in a tie for 56th-place at the NCAA Championships. The Pokes ended the tournament with three team points, tied with George Mason. Last year Wyoming finished in a tie for 50th.

Suder Honored: Wyoming head coach Steven Suder was named Western Athletic Conference Co-Coach of the Year following the WAC Championships. Suder shared the honor with Bill Dotson of New Mexico. The 1999 honor marks the fourth time in Suder's ten years at Wyoming that he has been named WAC Coach of the Year. The 1998-99 season marks the end of Wyoming's involvement in the Western Athletic Conference, which the Pokes have been a part of since 1962.

A Look at 1999-2000: The Cowboys will return a cast of talented wrestlers next season. A total of four NCAA qualifiers will represent Wyoming. Brian Wood, Steve Schenk and Craig Rumsey all competed at the 1999 Championships, while Chris Walker (133) was a participant at the 1998 Championships. Next year will also see the return of senior Corey Hamrick, who redshirted this season. Other returning lettermen will be Chris Bouchard (125), Kelly McConville (141), Shay Wyman (149), Jeremy Sell (174) and Brandon Dansie (174), among others.
