Wyoming Wrestling Program Signs Carter Downing of Evanston

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming head wrestlingcoach Steven Suder has announced the signing of Carter Downing of EvanstonHigh School in Evanston, Wyo. to a national letter of intent.

Downing has compiled a record of 105-16 in his three years of varsitywrestling for the Evanston Red Devils. At the Wyoming State WrestlingTournament Downing finished 4th as a freshman in the 103 pound division and5th in the 119 pound division as a sophomore. Last season he posted a 31-4record wrestling in the 135 pound weight class but his season ran short dueto a broken leg. Carter is a Governor's Award winner for most outstandingwrestler and has participated on the China Cultural Exchange wrestling team.Downing has also placed 1st at both the Reno World Championships and theRocky Mountain Nationals.

At the University of Wyoming Carter plans to study Agriculture or Exerciseand Sports Science. He is the son of Hardy and Linda Downing. He was alsorecruited by Michigan and Oklahoma.

"I really had a great visit when I came in October," said Downing. "Thecoaches were really great and the facilities are something else, and Iwanted to stay close to home."

"We've had the opprotunity to follow Carter's career for quite a while andwe've always loved his style and work ethic," said Suder of Downing. "CoachWagstaff at Evanston runs a very good high school program. Carter's highschool program and his experiences outside of Wyoming have prepared him wellfor the next level."
