IRVING, Texas -
After a great performance on the mat over the weekend, University of Wyoming 141-pound sophomore Bryce Meredith (Cheyenne, Wyo./North Carolina State) has been named the Big 12 Conference wrestler of the Week. The conference award was announced Tuesday by the league. He is the first Cowboy to garner a weekly conference award from the Big 12 Conference.
Meredith got the Pokes off to a fast start with a dominating 13-4 major decision win over No. 8 Anthony Abidin of Nebraska last Saturday in Lincoln. Meredith led 6-1 after the first period thanks to two takedowns and a nearfall. He added two more takedowns in the second stanza and finished his scoring off with a reversal in the final period. It was his first win over a ranked opponent at Wyoming and he remained perfect on the season at 6-0. He has won by pin, major decision or technical fall in five-of-his-six wins this season.
He also has moved into the national rankings, as Meredith is ranked No. 12 nationally by FloWrestling, Intermat Wrestling and Amateur Wrestling News.
