LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Two competitions in three days will test the University of Wyoming wrestling team, as it prepares for a dual event Friday and an open tournament on Sunday.
Up first, the Pokes will battle 24th-ranked Oregon State on Friday in Corvallis, Ore., at 8 p.m. MT. Matches will be televised live on the Pac-12 Network.
Two days later, UW will take part in the Reno Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nev. The RTOC is a one-day open tournament that attracts top-25 teams like Nebraska, Oregon State, Boise State and Stanford.
A look at the Cowboys
UW hopes to move its dual record to .500 for the season with a win over Oregon State. Now 1-2 for the year, the Pokes will seek their 200th road win in program history.
A trio of UW juniors is in the latest Amateur Wrestling News polls. Junior Tyler Cox is 10th at 125 pounds, junior Andy McCulley is 20th at 157 and junior Shane Woods made his debut in the polls this week, sitting 19th at 197.
In their last meeting, the Cowboys were upended by the Beavers in Laramie, 21-12. The Cowboys are 7-19 all-time versus Oregon State since 1960. One of those wins came in 2011-12, when UW and OSU tied at 22 after 10 matches, and Wyoming earned an additional team point from criteria.
Six Pokes placed in last year's RTOC, including wins from Cox at 125 and Alfonso Hernandez at 197. McCulley was second at 157, redshirt freshman Drew Templeman was sixth at 125, senior Kyle Komata was sixth at 141 and Woods was fifth at 184.
