Pom Team Info

The University of Wyoming coaching staff invites all interested UW Pom Team candidates to visit the UW campus in Laramie to meet with them, tour the facilities, watch a team practice, attend a game, and to see first-hand what it's like to be a member of the UW Pom Team. To support UW Intercollegiate Athletics by performing at all home football games as well as select men's basketball games, women's basketball games, and wrestling matches. The Pom Team also participates in pre-game activities at many athletic events throughout the year. In addition to these roles, members of the Pom Team serve as public relations ambassadors for the University of Wyoming. As public relations ambassadors, the Pom Team makes numerous appearances year round at university activities, community events and charitable and public events.

The UW Pom Team consists of 12 - 14 dancers. Members of the Pom Team are selected in the spring for the following year. For more information regarding tryouts, please visit the Tryouts Page.

•Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
•Enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours at UW during both fall and spring semesters
•Maintain a given level of physical fitness as prescribed by the Head Coach and /or the Athletic Department
•Must be able to attend all scheduled practices (class schedules must be worked around practice schedules)
•Maintain specific technical dance skills (will be posted on website in early 2012)
•Must have a physical, medical history questionnaire and medical insurance form on file with the Sports Medicine Office

The UW Pom Team practices 3 times per week. The current practice schedule is from 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Although this is the current practice schedule, the practice times and days may vary each semester depending on facility availability and events.

The UW Pom Team will attend a UDA summer camp each summer. The location of the camp may vary from year to year. The Team will compete at the discretion of the Head Coach and the Athletic Department on biannual basis. During the years the Team competes, they will attend UDA competitions.

Uniforms, practice clothes, shoes, pom pons, megaphones, warm ups, and any other required equipment or gear is provided through the UW Athletic Department at no cost to team members.

Acceptance of a position on the Spirit Squad implies a commitment to attend all practices and meetings, athletic events and games, university events, community appearances, fundraisers, and other functions deemed necessary by the Head Coach or the Athletic Department.•Summer Camp & Practice (1-2 weeks in summer)

•School Year Weekly Required Hours (varies from 9 - 25 hours in a non-competition year)
o6 hours of practice per week(3 days, 2 hours each day)
o3 hours of Strength & Conditioning(3 days, 1 hour each day)
o1 hour of tumbling (cheer) or technique class (pom)
o8 hours of study hall in the office of academic support
oVaried hours of athletic events & games - This will include Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break and Spring Break as well as one-day breaks and holidays such as Labor Day, President's Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Teams will rotate holiday commitments so that one team will not be required to attend events during each holiday/school break.

Spirit Squad members register for classes during the student-athlete early registration window and are expected to schedule their classes around practice times.

The Pom Team travels to regional football games, Bowl games, and post season basketball play along with the UW Marching Band. Members of the Pom Team that travel are chosen at the discretion of the Head Coach.
