LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - Justyna Podziemska scored 19 points to lead No. 21 Wyoming over TCU 62-45 Saturday.
The Cowgirls (14-1, 2-0 Mountain West Conference) opened up a 35-25 lead after Podziemska hit her second 3-pointer of the game with 13:22 remaining.
A 3-pointer from Helena Sverrisdottir with 7:17 to go pulled the Lady Frogs (8-8, 1-1) within 43-37, but Wyoming scored 19 of the final 27 points of the game to seal the win.
Elizabeth Dissen scored 10 points for the Cowgirls on 5-of-5 shooting, and Aubrey Vandiver added eight rebounds.
Adrianne Ross and Lori Butler-Rayford each scored nine points to lead TCU.
Wyoming went on a 10-2 run midway through the first half to take a 14-7 lead. The Lady Frogs tied the score at 18 with 2:59 remaining, but the Cowgirls scored the final 5 points of the period to take a 23-18 advantage into halftime.
"This was a very difficult victory," said UW head coach Joe Legerski. "TCU is very talented and they put tremendous pressure on the ball. In the first half, I thought we had some good looks at the basket, but we were looking around to the defenders, instead of getting their focus on shooting the ball. We stressed at halftime that we needed to work on that and I think it showed in our numbers in the second half. I also felt like we did a good job on them defensively as well."
The Cowgirls shot 24-58 (.414) from the field, while out-rebounding TCU 43-39. They also finished with 21 assists and 11 blocked shots.
Wyoming will head back out on the road for a match-up against the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Wednesday, Jan. 16. The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. tip off in Colorado Springs.
