LARAMIE, Wyo. - *Colorado State at Wyoming - Colorado State 76-51 - Box Score
The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball Team fellin their conference opener with a 76-51 loss to the Colorado State Rams,on Saturday afternoon in Laramie.
The Rams were led by senior forward Heather Haanen, who finished thegame with a team leading 18 points and seven rebounds. The Rams shot anamazing 51% (23-45) from the field.
Sophomore Darci Arsene had a career day with 12 points and careerhigh 15 rebounds. Heather Shaffner also tossed in ten points in a seasonhigh 31 minutes of play. Unfortunately, the Cowgirls had a dismal dayfrom the field, shooting only 28% (15-54), despite outrebounding theRams, 41-33.
"I thought some people really forced the basketball today," said headcoach Cindy Fisher. "I thinkwe were running some nice plays and getting good looks at the basket, but if it wasn't there we were forcing it instead of pulling it back outand really letting it develop. People thought they would be the one topull it out, make the big shot to get us close, and that really is notour game plan. We just really struggled with that tonight."
"Darci Arsene is really going to do the blue collar stuff for us. Tohave a double-double against a team like this shows a lot of heart anddesire. You can have good games against teams that aren't as good asCSU, but to have a good game against a high quality team shows a lot ofheart. Heather Shaffner should be the player of the game, becausewithout her we would not of been in this basketball game."
The Cowgirls are now 8-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference. They willplay Brigham Young and Utah on the road next week.
