The University of Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team travelled to Dallas, Texas, yesterdayfor a WAC matchup with the SMU Mustangs. Despite a 19 point performance from senior center Rebecca Tomlin, UW fell to SMU by a score of 97-66. Wyoming is now 5-9 overall, and 1-2 in conference play. SMU's victory raised their season record to 7-7, 2-0 in the WAC.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 52-33 halftime lead on the Cowgirls and never looked back on their way to a decisive victory. Wyoming was once again plagued by turnovers as they had 28, compared to SMU's 14. The Cowgirl turnovers were very costly as SMU outscored UW 41-9 in points off turnovers. There was also a huge difference in second chance points as SMU had 21 compared to Wyoming's 10.
Tomlin had a UW team high 8 rebounds to go with her 19 points for Wyoming. UW also continued to get valuable minutes from Jenny Lazzeri off the bench as she scored 17 points in 26 minutes.
The Mustangs were led by Anika Calvert with 26 points and Karlin Kennedy with 14 points.
The next action for Wyoming will be this Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas, as the Cowgirls will face TCU in a 6:00 pm matchup.
