The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team (8-9 overall, 0-4 MWC) suffered a heartbreaking 81-78 loss against the TCU Lady Frogs (12-6 overall, 4-1 MWC) on Wednesday night in Laramie.

"The game of basketball is interesting at times," said UW head coach Joe Legerski. "We played extremely well tonight. Even though I'm disappointed in the loss, I'm pleased with the effort. We knew going into this game that TCU was going to be a very tough challenge for us. We need to continue with the intensity we played with tonight and progress as a team. Hillary Carlson continues to give us all she can out there and was a big key for us tonight."

Sophomore Hillary Carlson recorded her first double-double of her career with 27 points and ten rebounds. Kristen Scheffler finished with 12 points and four rebounds, while Megan McGuffey added 11 points and five assists. The Cowgirls shot 26-65 (.400) from the field and 11-29 (.379) from beyond the arc.

A Garoutte basket pulled the Lady Frogs to within one, 11-10, and Wyoming answered with 10 of the next 14 points to make it a seven point game, 21-14. TCU would score five unanswered which got them to within two, 21-19. Ashley Sickles would score the next five points to put Wyoming up 26-21, unfortunately the Lady Frogs went on a 9-4 run to regain the lead, 31-30. The two teams would trade the next couple of baskets as UW regained the lead, 34-33. They would close out the half on an 11-6 run to take a 45-39 lead into the break.

After a basket by each team out of the halftime break, TCU went on a 15-0 run to take the nine point lead, 56-47. The Cowgirls maintained their composure and scored the next 14 of 18 to regain a one point advantage, 61-60, with 12:50 left. Another six straight points by the Lady Frogs made the score 66-61, but Wyoming hit the next two baskets to pull within one, 66-65. With the score 75-70 in favor of TCU, Carlson scored six of the Cowgirls next points to put Wyoming up 76-75. Two Helena Sverrisdottir free throws gave the Lady Frogs a one point advantage 77-76 with 1:23 on the clock. She would follow that up with two more which made it a three-point game with 39 seconds remaining. Carlson would close the gap with a basket with time winding down. In the end, free throws by TCU and a last second miss by the Cowgirls would give the Lady Frogs the 81-78 victory.
