TheWyoming Cowgirls recorded theirsecond Mountain West Conference road win of the season on Saturday witha 62-48 win over Air Force at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs,Colo. Sophomore Carrie Bacon led the way for Wyoming with 16 points and11 rebounds. Freshman Carly Stucky also scored in double figures with15. Junior Jessica Gibbs also came close to a double-double with eightpoints and 14 rebounds.
"We had a great defensive effort in the first half, holding them tojust 19 points," said UW head basketball coach Cindy Fisher. "Werebounded the ball really well, and that led to lots of transitionbuckets for us.
"Carly (Stucky) played a very solid game at the point guard spot. Shekept us under control and was solid all-around. Jessica (Gibbs) wasoutstanding on the boards, which triggered our offense, and Carrie(Bacon) had another strong performance.
"This is a great win for the kids, and gives us a lot of confidenceheading into our last two regular-season games."
The Cowgirls outrebounded Air Force 42-41 and outshot the Falcons fromthe field 47.9 percent to 27.1 percent. Wyoming also hit 70.6 percentof its free throws (12 of 17), while Air Force only managed 43.8 percentfrom the charity stripe (7 of 16).
Wyoming is now 9-16 overall, 3-9 in the Mountain West Conference. TheCowgirls have two regular-season games remaining. UW hosts San DiegoState on Thursday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m., and will host UNLV on Saturday,March 4 at 2:00 p.m.
