Cowgirl Basketball Holds First Scrimmage

October 24, 1998

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team held their first scrimmage of the season in the Arena Auditorium on Saturday night. The scrimmage consisted of two 12-minute halves with a running clock.

The Gold team defeated the White team by a final of 27-20. The Gold team was led by sophomore forward Shelby Hoffman (Gillette, Wyo.), who had a team high nine points, along with adding two rebounds. Senior forward Jenny Lazzeri (Lakewood, Colo.) and freshman guard Molly Marso (Gillette, Wyo.) led the Gold team in rebounds with four each. Sophomore Lisa Glasser (Bismarck, N.D.) led the White team with six points and six rebounds.

"I felt overall they did a good job," said head coach Cindy Fisher. "I have yet to put five players together on a continuous basis since we started practice. So to throw a new group on the floor today and expect them to run it, run a transition, really be patient on their screens and let things develop, I think they did a pretty good job. I think for the newcomers, it was the first time theyve been on the floor with that many people watching, so there were some nerves. First time out, I was very pleased, along with their defensive effort. Weve really been concentrating on that, and I think our offense suffered because our pressure defense was up there. Overall, I was very happy how it turned out and I thought they gave great effort."

The Cowgirls open up their exhibition season on Nov. 2 at 5:15 p.m. in the Double A, and will open the regular non-conference season against Creighton on Nov. 13 at 7:00 p.m.
