LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The Cowgirl hoopsters earned their first win of the season against the Denver Pioneers, on Wednesday, November 18, by the score of 60-56. The win also marked the first head coaching victory of Cindy Fisher's young career. With the victory UW moves to 1-1 on the season, while DU dropped to 1-2.
The Cowgirls were led in scoring by senior center Rebecca Tomlin, who had a team high 16 points and eight rebounds. In 31 minutes of play, Tomlin was five of nine from the field and six of ten from the free-throw line.
In her first start as a Cowgirl, junior guard Sara Ossana added nine points and seven rebounds.
The tight game would come down to free-throws in the final seconds, and freshman forward Carrie Bacon hit two free-throws with four seconds remaining to put Wyoming up by three and seal the victory for the Cowgirls. On the night, Bacon was six for six from the free-throw line and ended the night with eight points and five rebounds.
Despite the win, the Cowgirls shot only 32% for the game and 33% from the three-point line. Wyoming did show improvement, however, by lowering their game turnover total by six, from their previous game against Creighton, turning the ball over 19 times versus the Pioneers.
