Early shooting woes and a 22-point first half deficit were too much to overcome as the Wyoming women's basketball team (2-2 overall) lost 84-63 against the Iowa State Cyclones (4-0 overall) on Friday afternoon at the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic.

Three Cowgirls finished the game in double-digits led by senior forward Kayla Woodward. She recorded a team-high 18 points along with six rebounds and two assists. Senior guard Kaitlyn Mileto added 14 points followed by junior guard Marquelle Dent with 13 points and four assists. Freshman forward Bailee Cotton led the way with eight rebounds. Wyoming shot 21 of 62 (.339) from the field and 7 of 24 (.292) from beyond the arc.

Iowa State was led by senior guard Brynn Williamson with a game-high 21 points. Sophomore guard Seanna Johnson followed with 15 points and 12 reobunds, while senior guard Nikki Moody recorded 14 points and ten rebounds. The Cyclones shot 32 of 69 (.464) from the field and 10 of 23 (.435) from the field, plus outrebounded the Cowgirls 49-35.

"We came out and missed a number of shots and opportunities early, including one possession where we had three offensive rebounds," head coach Joe Legerski said. "Sometimes you get a little nervous about the opponent you are playing, maybe they are a little bit quicker to your shot or maybe you rush the shot because you think they are going to be there. We played a very good Iowa State team. They can play the game, have great shooters and put a lot of pressure on you. It hurried us up to begin with and to get down the way we did, it was a battle to climb out of it."

After a quick basket by the Cyclones out of the break, Wyoming scored ten straight to pull to within single-digits, 44-36. Iowa State responded with eight unanswered to extend the lead back to 16, 52-36. A three-point play by Woodward stopped the Cowgirl scoreless stretch to make it 52-39 with 14:37 left in the game. Over the next seven minute stretch, the Cyclones scored 13 of the next 20 points to increase the lead to 19, 65-46. Wyoming couldn't overcome the deficit falling by the final of 84-63.

It was a tough night out of the gates for the Cowgirls as they shot 0 of 10 from the field to start the game. Iowa State would build a 14-0 lead before a basket by Dent at the 15:28 mark. With the score 21-8 in favor of the Cyclones, two free throws by Woodward would start an 8-2 run to close the gap to seven, 23-16. ISU responded with a 17-2 run of its own over the next five minutes to extend the lead to 22, 40-18. A three-point field goal by Mileto stopped the Wyoming scoreless stretch, but the Cyclones took a 42-26 lead going into the locker room.

Woodward led the Cowgirls at the half with eight points and two rebounds. Jordan Kelley recorded seven points followed by Mileto with five. Cotton added a team-high five rebounds. Wyoming shot 9-35 (.257) from the field and 3 of 13 (.231) from beyond the arc. Iowa State shot 15 of 31 (.484) from the field and 5 of 10 (.500) from beyond the arc.

Wyoming will close out the St. Mary's Hilton Concord Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday against the Howard Bison. The game is set for 1 p.m. MT in Moraga, Calif.
