Cowgirls Falter Late, Fall to Montana State

December 14, 1998

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Wyoming faced Montana State in a neutral site matchup, Sunday night in Billings, Montana, and the Cowgirls were downed by the Lady 'Cats 81-78.

Montana State would start off the game taking the early 12-8 lead. Wyoming would have an answer with a 17-2 run to take the lead back 25-14. The Lady 'Cats would eventually tie the score at 30 all off a three-point shot by guard Jennifer Curl with 2:05 left to go in the half. But a basket by Jenny Lazzeri and a three-point shot by Sara Ossana at the end of the half, put the Cowgirls up 35-30.

The second half would see the Lady 'Cats go on a 13-4 run in the first four minutes. Wyoming would go on a run of their own building the lead to 11 and eventually their largest lead of 13. But Wyoming couldn't hold the Lady 'Cats off as key turnovers would hurt the Cowgirls down the stretch and MSU would finish the game with a 25-9 run. MSU would take a 72-71 lead at 2:50 remaining in the game on a Jamie Spring steal and layup and never looked back.

The Cowgirls were led by senior center Rebecca Tomlin, who finished the game with 18 points and four rebounds. The Cowgirls shot a season high 54% from the field and 41% from the three-point line.
