The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will play their last non-conference game of this season as they host the San Francisco Dons, Saturday, Jan. 3. The game is set to tip off at 2 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium.
The Cowgirls will enter this game with a 7-5 overall record after a ten point victory, 58-48, over the Adams State Grizzlies on Tuesday night. Three Cowgirls are scoring in double-figures so far led by freshman Emma Langford with 13.2 points per game. She is followed by guard Megan McGuffey with 11.3 points and Kristen Scheffler with 10.2 points. McGuffey also leads the way with 6.8 rebounds per contest.
Langford, who currently leads the team in points, assists, steals and minutes played, ranks in the Top 15 in each of those categories in the Mountain West Conference. Scheffler leads the league in three-point field goals made (2.75 tpfgm), while being ranked 12th in percentage (33-87, .378) and 20th in scoring. McGuffey is ninth in rebounding, 11th in assists and 19th in scoring as well.
The Dons come in to the game with a 4-9 record overall this season. Shay Rollins leads the way with 17.9 points and three rebounds per game, while Necolia Simmons is adding 14.2 points and a team leading 9.8 rebounds. They return two starters and six letterwinners to a team that went 14-16 overall and 5-9 in the West Coast Conference a year ago. This is the sixth meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 3-2. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 3, 2008 as the Cowgirls defeated the Dons, 53-51, in San Francisco. The Dons are coached by Tanya Haave who is in her third season with the program.
