Cowgirls Welcome Spartans in MW Home Opener on Saturday

The Wyoming women's basketball team will host its first Mountain West game of the season on Saturday against the San José State Spartans. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. MT in the Arena-Auditorium. The Cowgirls enter Saturday's match-up with a 5-6 mark and 0-1 in conference action after suffering a 58-55 loss last time out against UNLV. Senior forward Jordan Sibrel led the way with a career-high 14 points plus six rebounds while shooting 7-of-8 from the field. Junior guard Jordan Kelley recorded her first double-double with a career-high ten points and 14 rebounds. Senior forward Kayla Woodward and senior guard Kaitlyn Mileto each finished with 12 points. The Cowgirls were 24-of-69 (.348) from the field and 4-of-26 (.154) from beyond the arc.

Junior guard Marquelle Dent leads the way averaging 17.3 points, 5.8 assists and 1.9 steals. Woodward follows with a team-high 7.6 rebounds plus 14.7 points, while Mileto is adding 10.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. As a team, the Cowgirls are shooting 269-of-693 (.388) from the field and 81-of-247 (.328) from the beyond the arc.

The Spartans are 7-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play after opening up with 62-58 win over Utah State. Senior guard Ta'Rea Cunnigan leads the way with 15.4 points plus 4.8 rebounds, while senior forward Rebecca Woodberry is adding 13.0 points and a team-leading 7.6 rebounds. The Spartans average 88.1 points compared to 83.1 points for their opponents. This will be the fifth meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 3-1. The last time the two teams met was Feb. 15, 2014 with the Cowgirls coming away with a 103-80 win in Laramie. San José State is coached by Jamie Craighead who is in her second season with the program.
