Cowgirl Basketball Faces Air Force in Road Contest

The Wyoming women's basketball team will play the first of its two-game road swing on Wednesday against the Air Force Falcons. The game is set to tip-off at 7 p.m. MT at Clune Arena in Colorado Springs. Live stats, video and audio can be found on the women's basketball Gameday Central page located on the GoWyo.com website.

The Cowgirls are currently 8-4 overall and 1-1 in league play after earning a 68-53 victory against Nevada on Saturday. Senior Marquelle Dent finished her night with 30-points just two shy of her career high plus five assists and four steals. She was 12-of-20 from the field and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Natalie Baker followed with 13 points while sophomore Liv Roberts chipped in 11 and six boards. Freshman Marta Gomez brought down a career-high ten rebounds. Wyoming shot 23-of-51 (.451) from the field and 18-of-23 (.783) from the free throw line. The Cowgirls also out rebounded Nevada, 38-30.

Dent currently leads the team in scoring, assists and steals. She ranks first in assists, minutes played, third in assist/turnover ratio and scoring while in league games is first in assists, second in steals and third in scoring.

UW is shooting 278-of-688 (.404) from the field and 75-of-230 (.326) from beyond the arc this season. The Cowgirls are also outscoring opponents 69.7-63.9 and out rebounding teams 38.0-35.5.

The Falcons are led by Cortney Porter who is averaging 11.4 points along with three rebounds per game. Dee Bennett is the leading rebounder with 4.2 per contest. As a team, Air Force is averaging 45.2 points and 33 rebounds. Air Force returns three starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 2-28 overall and 1-17 in league action in 2015-16.

This will be the 48th meeting between the two schools with UW holding the 45-2 advantage in the series. The last time the two teams met was March 9, 2015 in the MW conference tournament. The Cowgirls came out on top with a 70-48 victory. Air Force is coached by Chris Gobrecht who is in her first season with the program.
