The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will be back on the road to close out the week as they take on the San Diego State Aztecs, on Saturday, Jan. 9. The game is set to tip off at 3 p.m. Mountain Time in San Diego.
The Cowgirls will enter the game with a 10-3 overall record and a 1-0 mark in conference play after opening up the conference season with a 64-61 win over Colorado State. Four Cowgirls are scoring in double-figures so far led by junior Aubrey Vandiver with a team leading 14.9 points and 9.5 rebounds. She is followed by junior Hillary Carlson with 13.5 points and 2.2 blocks, while Emma Langford is adding 11.1 points and Kristen Scheffler with 10.5 points per game.
Carlson ranks first in blocks and tenth in scoring while being ranked third in field goal percentage and fourth in free throw percentage in the Mountain West Conference. Vandiver ranks among the Top 15 in points, rebounds, steals and field goal percentage, while Langford is 13th in assists and 18th in scoring.
San Diego State is currently 9-4 overall and 1-0 in the MWC after a 61-39 win over New Mexico on Wednesday night. The Aztecs are led by Jene Morris who is averaging 14.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. Jessika Bradley is adding a team high 7.8 rebounds, along with 8.3 points per game.
They welcome back four starters and ten letterwinners to a team that went 24-8 overall and 13-3 in the MWC a year ago. This is the 38th meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 21-16. The last time the two teams met was February 15, 2009 as the Cowgirls defeated the Aztecs 64-61 in Laramie. SDSU is coached by Beth Burns who is in her 13th season with the program.
