The Wyoming women’s basketball closes out its week on Saturday against the UNLV Lady Rebels. The game is set to tip-off at 8 p.m. MT at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas. Live stats, video and audio can be found on the women’s basketball Gameday Central page located on the GoWyo.com website.
A career day by freshman Rachelle Tucker sparked a 67-45 over the Air Force Falcons on Wednesday night. The Cowgirls are currently 9-4 overall and 2-1 in league. Tucker finished her night with a career-high 16 point and six rebound effort. She was 6-of-7 from the field and 4-of-7 from the charity stripe. Senior Marquelle Dent recorded a team-high 19 points plus five assists and steals. Liv Roberts chipped in 12 points and a career-high 11 rebounds while Natalie Baker added 14 points. The Cowgirls were 26-of-54 (.481) from the field and out rebounded Air Force, 39-31.
Dent currently leads the team in scoring, assists and steals. She ranks first in assists, minutes played, third in assist/turnover ratio and scoring in the MW, while in league games is first in assists, second in steals and third in scoring.
UW is shooting 304-of-742 (.410) from the field and 76-of-235 (.323) from beyond the arc this season. The Cowgirls are also outscoring opponents 69.5-62.5 and out rebounding teams 38.1-35.2.
UNLV is currently 7-6 overall and 0-2 in MW play. Last time out, the Lady Rebels lost by eight, 64-56, against Colorado State. Four players are averaging double-figures including Brooke Johnson who leads the way with 13.8 points and 4.3 boards. She is followed by Dakota Gonzalez with 12.7 points. Aley Rohde leads the way with 9.6 rebounds and 10.4 points while Nikki Wheatley averages 11.2 points per game. As a team, UNLV is averaging 63.5 points and 46.3 rebounds. The Lady Rebels return three starters and four letterwinnners to a team that went 13-17 overall and 10-8 in the league a season ago.
This is the 42nd meeting between the two schools with UNLV holding a 21-20 advantage in the series. The last time the two teams met was February 28, 2015. The Cowgirls came out on top with a 99-68 victory. The Lady Rebels are coached by Kathy Olivier who is in her eighth season with the program.
