The Wyoming women's basketball team will be on the road this week in Mountain West Conference play as they take on the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Wednesday, Jan. 11 in Colorado Springs. The game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Clune Arena.
The Cowgirls are 11-2 overall and 1-1 in MWC play after a one point victory, 68-67, against the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday. Wyoming is led in scoring and rebounding by sophomore Hanna Zavecz who is averaging 14.2 points and 5.8 rebounds along with 3.9 assists and 2.4 steals per game. She is followed by Jodi Bolerjack with 13 points per game and Megan McGuffey with 9.2 points per game. Wyoming enters the weekend ranked first in the conference in scoring defense allowing just 51.5 points per game and is among the top three in several other categories in the league.
The Falcons are currently 10-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. They are led by Alecia Steele who is averaging 11.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. They come in to this season with four returning starters and ten letterwinners from a team that went 7-21 overall and 2-12 in the MWC a year ago.
This will be the 28th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 25-2. The last time the two teams met was March 3, 2005 as the Cowgirls defeated the Falcons 60-43 in Laramie. Air Force is coached by Ardie McInelly who is in her fifth season with the program.
