Cowgirl Basketball To Host Horned Frogs On Wednesday

    The Cowgirl basketball team will return home as they host the TCU Horned Frogs, on Wednesday, Jan. 12. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium. Live stats can be followed or audio can be found on www.wyomingathletics.com.

    Wyoming is currently 11-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play after defeating the New Mexico Lobos, 63-53, in Albuquerque on Saturday. Hillary Carlson is leading the way with 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, while Aubrey Vandiver follows with 17.7 points and 9.9 rebounds. The Cowgirls are shooting .432 (332-768) from the field, 106-284 (.373) from beyond the arc and 169-235 (.719) from the charity stripe.

    Carlson ranks first in blocked shots, second in scoring, third in field goal percentage while being eighth in rebounding in the Mountain West Conference. Vandiver is among the Top 12 in points, rebounds, assists, minutes played, field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage while senior Jade Kennedy is first in assist/turnover ratio, second in minutes played and fourth in assists.

    The Frogs are currently 10-6 overall and 2-0 in league play. They are led by Emily Carter who is averaging a team leading 19.7 points plus five rebounds. She is followed by Helena Sverrisdottir who is adding 17.3 points while Starr Crawford is leading the way with 9.2 rebounds. They return four starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 22-9 overall, 12-4 in the MWC and earned a bid into the NCAA Tournament.

    This is the 17th meeting between the two schools. TCU leads the series 9-7. The last time the two teams met was February 13, 2010 as the Frogs defeated the Cowgirls 78-59 in Fort Worth. TCU is coached by Jeff Mittie who is in his 12th season with the program.
