Cowgirl Hoops to Visit 'The Pit'

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming women's basketball team will close out the week against the New Mexico Lobos, on Saturday, Jan. 14 in Albuquerque. The game time is set for 3:00 p.m.

The Cowgirls are 12-2 overall and 2-1 in MWC play after a nine point, 64-55 victory over the Air Force Academy Falcons on Wednesday night. Wyoming is led in scoring and rebounding by sophomore Hanna Zavecz who is averaging 14.4 points and six rebounds along with 3.9 assists and 2.5 steals per game. She is followed by Jodi Bolerjack with 13.5 points per game and Erin Hicks with 9.1 points per game. Wyoming enters the weekend ranked first in the conference in scoring defense allowing just 51.7 points per game and is among the top three in several other categories in the league.

The Lobos are currently 12-4 overall and 2-1 in the MWC after a 76-67 loss to TCU on Wednesday night. UNM is led by Dionne Marsh who is averaging 15.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. They come in to this season with three returning starters and ten letterwinners from a team that went 26-5 overall and 12-2 in the MWC a year ago.

This will be the 49th meeting between the two schools. New Mexico leads 29-19. The last time the two teams met was March 5, 2005 as UNM defeated the Cowgirls 65-48 in Laramie. New Mexico is coached by Don Flanagan who is in his 11th season with the program.
