The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will head out on the road for the first time in Mountain West play as they face the New Mexico Lobos. The game is set for Saturday, January 14, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in Albuquerque. Live stats can be followed or audio can be found on www.wyomingathletics.com.
Wyoming enters the game 4-10 overall and seeking their first conference win after suffering a 54-51 loss against UNLV on Wednesday night. The Cowgirls are led by junior Ashley Sickles who leads the team with 12.6 points plus 6.7 rebounds per game. Chaundra Sewell follows with 12.5 points and a team and 8.8 rebounds, while Kaitlyn Mileto is adding 9.9 points. As a team, they are shooting 278-749 (.371) from the field and 57-254 (.224) from beyond the arc.
Sickles currently ranks first in minutes played, eighth in scoring and blocked shots and ninth in rebounding. Sewell is among the Top 15 in points, rebounds assists, blocked shots and field goal percentage, while Mileto is third in minutes played, 11th in three-point field goal percentage and 15th in scoring.
UNM enters the week 6-9 overall and 0-1 in conference action. They lost their opener 65-46 against Boise State on Wednesday night. Caroline Durbin averages a team high 14.6 points plus 4.3 rebounds per game. Porche Torrance is adding 10.8 points and a team leading 9.1 rebounds. They return two starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 13-18 overall and 5-11 in the Mountain West a year ago.
This is the 63rd meeting between the two teams. UNM leads the series 35-27. The last time the two teams met was March 9, 2011 as the Lobos earned a 67-61 win in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Championships. New Mexico is coached by Yvonne Sanchez who is in her first season as the head coach.
