The Cowgirl basketball team is back out on the road as they take on the Utah Utes, on Saturday, Jan. 15. The game is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City. Live stats can be followed or audio can be found on www.wyomingathletics.com.
Wyoming is currently 11-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play after a 68-47 loss against the TCU Horned Frogs last time out. Hillary Carlson is leading the way with 17.7 points and 7.3 rebounds, while Aubrey Vandiver follows with 17.6 points and a team high 9.5 rebounds. The Cowgirls are shooting .428 (351-820) from the field, 108-303 (.356) from beyond the arc and 176-248 (.710) from the charity stripe.
Carlson ranks second in blocked shots and scoring, fourth in field goal percentage while being eighth in rebounding in the Mountain West Conference. Vandiver is among the Top 12 in points, rebounds, assists, minutes played, field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage while senior Jade Kennedy is second in assist/turnover ratio and minutes played and fifth in assists.
The Utes are currently 9-8 overall and 2-1 in the MWC after a 68-50 loss against BYU on Wednesday night. They are led by Iwalani Rodrigues who is averaging a team leading 14.3 points plus 3.2 rebounds. She is followed by Michelle Plouffe who is adding 13.8 points and leading with 8.1 rebounds. They return two starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 23-12 overall, 10-6 in the MWC and moved into the second round of the WNIT Tournament.
This is the 68th meeting between the two schools. Utah leads the series 59-8. The last time the two teams met was February 28, 2010 as the Utes defeated the Cowgirls 52-48 in Laramie. Utah is coached by Anthony Levrets who is in his first season as they head coach.
