The Cowgirl basketball team will step out of conference play this week as they host the Seattle University Redhawks, on Wednesday, Jan. 19. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Arena Auditorium.
Wyoming is currently 12-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play after a 55-48 road win against Utah on Saturday. Aubrey Vandiver is leading the team in scoring and rebounding with 17.9 points and 9.4 rebounds, while Hillary Carlson is adding 17.6 points and 7.3 rebounds. The Cowgirls are shooting .425 (371-872) from the field, 117-328 (.357) from beyond the arc and 182-260 (.700) from the charity stripe.
Carlson ranks second in blocked shots, third in scoring and field goal percentage while being eighth in rebounding in the Mountain West Conference. Vandiver is among the Top 12 in points, rebounds, assists, minutes played, field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage, while senior Jade Kennedy is first in assist/turnover ratio, second in minutes played and fifth in assists.
The Redhawks are currently 5-14 overall. They are led by Salena Dickerson who is averaging a team leading 11.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. She is followed by Elle Kerfoot who is adding 11.6 points and 3.9 rebounds. They return three starters and six letterwinners to a team that went 6-24 overall last year.
This is the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Seattle is coached by Joan Bonvicini who is in her second year with the program.
