The Wyoming women's basketball team will begin the week by hosting the UNLV Lady Rebels, on Wednesday, Jan. 23. The game is set to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. at the Arena-Auditorium. Live stats and audio can be found at www.gowyo.com.
Wyoming is currently 13-4 overall and 2-2 in MW play after a tough 66-43 loss against San Diego State on Saturday afternoon. Four of five starters are averaging double-figures led by Chaundra Sewell. She is averaging 14.7 points and a league leading 9.9 rebounds. Kayla Woodward follows with 13.6 points and 6.1 rebounds while Kaitlyn Mileto is adding 12.2 points. Senior Ashley Sickles is chipping in 11.8 points and 6.0 boards as well.
The Cowgirls are first in the league in scoring offense (71.4 ppg) and assists (15.1 aspg). They are also shooting 433-955 (.453) from the field and 113-296 (.382) from beyond the arc. Both rank first in the league. In Mountain West games, they are second in scoring offense (70.2 ppg) and free throw percentage (50-58, .862), third in scoring defense (62.0 ppg), assists (15.0 aspg) and field goal percentage (105-239, .439).
UNLV enters the contest with a 6-12 overall record and 2-2 in the MW. They are led by Kelli Thompson who is averaging 17.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Alana Cesarz follows with 16.1 points and a team high 7.4 rebounds. They return two starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 22-10 overall and 10-4 in the MW a year ago.
This will be the 37th meeting between the two schools. UNLV leads the series 20-16. The last time the two teams met was Feb. 4, 2012 as the Cowgirls defeated the Lady Rebels, 51-47, in overtime. UNLV is coached by Kathy Olivier who is in her fifth season.
