The Wyoming basketball team will wrap up a two-game road swing on Saturday against the Boise State Broncos. Saturday’s game is set for a 2 p.m. MT tip at the Taco Bell Events Center in Boise, Idaho. UW is currently 10-7 overall and 3-4 in league play after a three-point loss 68-65 against the Nevada Wolf Pack on Wednesday night. The Cowgirls were led by senior Marquelle Dent who recorded a team-high 15 points and six assists. Freshman Marta Gomez added 14 points followed by junior Hailey Ligocki with a career-high 13. Sophomore Liv Roberts chipped in 11 and nine rebounds while sophomore Natalie Baker had a game-high 12 boards. Wyoming shot 24-of-56 (.429) from the field and 13-of-24 (.542) from the free throw line.
Dent currently leads the team in scoring, assists and steals. She ranks first in assists, minutes played, second in assist/turnover ratio and third scoring in the MW, while in league games she is first in assists, minutes played, third in steals and third in scoring. UW is shooting 389-of-951 (.409) from the field and 97-of-315 (.308) from beyond the arc this season. The Cowgirls are also outscoring opponents 66.9-62.4.
The Broncos are 11-6 overall and 4-2 in MW play after a 78-75 victory over San Jose State on Wednesday night. Three players are averaging double-figures on the season led by Brooke Pahukoa. The junior guard is averaging 15.9 points along with 5.6 rebounds. Senior center Miquelle Askey chips in 13.2 points and 5.8 boards while forward Shalen Shaw follows with 12.9 points and a team-high 8.9 rebounds. As a team, Boise State is out scoring its opponents 71.0-62.8 and out rebounding competitors 38.9-35.8. The Broncos returned three starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 22-11 overall and 11-7 in league play a season ago.
This is the 16th meeting between the two schools. UW holds a small 8-7 advantage in the series. The last time the two teams met was January 10, 2015 with the Cowgirls coming away with a 64-59 victory. Boise State is coached by Gordy Presnell who is in his 11th season with the program.
