Cowgirl Basketball Faces Road Test against Lobos

The Cowgirls enter this week's match-up with a 7-9 mark and 2-4 in conference action a heartbreaking 66-65 loss against Fresno State on Saturday afternoon. Senior forward Kayla Woodward finished with a game-high 20 points and six rebounds while shooting 7-11 from the field and 4-5 from beyond the arc. Junior guard Marquelle Dent also added 20 points, three assists and two steals. Junior guard Jordan Kelley added 11 points and five rebounds in her effort. The Cowgirls were 24-of-52 (.462) from the field, 8-of-16 (.500) and 9-of-12 (.750) from the charity stripe. Wyoming had 18 points off turnovers and ten second chance points.

Dent leads the way averaging 17.2 points, 5.4 assists and 2.1 steals. Woodward follows with a team-high 7.5 rebounds plus 15.7 points. Kelley is adding 6.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists in her 16 contests this season. As a team, the Cowgirls are shooting 385-of-974 (.395) from the field and 118-of-349 (.338) from the beyond the arc.

The Lobos are 8-10 overall and 4-3 in league play. Last time out, the Lobos defeated the UNLV Lady Rebels by three, 63-60. Senior Antiesha Brown leads the way with 14.0 points along with 3.6 rebounds per game. Junior Khadijah Shumpert follows with 10.8 points and a team-high 6.2 rebounds. The Lobos average 60.2 points compared to 63.9 points for their opponents. This will be the 69th meeting between the two schools. New Mexico leads the series 37-31. The last time the two teams met was Feb. 15, 2014. The Cowgirls earned a 79-75 win in Laramie. New Mexico is coached by Yvonne Sanchez who is in her fourth season with the program.
