Cowgirl Basketball On The Road For Tough Match-Up With San Diego State

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will be on the road for the second straight game as they take on the San Diego State Aztecs. The game is set for Tuesday, Jan. 24, beginning at 8:30 p.m. MT. Wyoming is now 6-11 overall and 2-2 in Mountain West play after suffering a 62-58 loss against Colorado State on Saturday. The Cowgirls are led by Chaundra Sewell who is averaging a team high 13.0 points and 8.8 rebounds. Junior Ashley Sickles follows with 12.2 points plus 6.5 rebounds per game, while freshman Kayla Woodward is chipping in 11.0 points and 5.1 rebounds. As a team, they are shooting 359-917 (.391) from the field and 77-297 (.259) from beyond the arc.

Sickles currently ranks fourth in minutes played, eighth in blocked shots and rebounding and ninth in scoring. Sewell is among the Top 15 in points, rebounds, assists, blocked shots and field goal percentage. In league games, Woodward is second in scoring, field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage, plus seventh in rebounds per game.

SDSU is currently 14-4 overall and 4-0 in the Mountain West. They defeated Air Force, 75-62, last time out. Courtney Clements is averaging a team high 16.7 points along with 5.2 rebounds. Kiyana Stamps is adding 10.9 points while Chaires Culberson averages a team high 5.8 rebounds. They return two starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 12-17 overall and 6-10 in the MW.

This is the 43rd meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 24-18. The last time the two teams met was March 2, 2011 as the Cowgirls defeated San Diego State, 63-50, in San Diego. SDSU is coached by Beth Burns who is in her 15th season with the program.
