Cowgirl Basketball on the Road for Two Games

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will be on the road for two conference games this week. They will take on the Colorado State Rams, on Thursday, January 25, in Ft. Collins and then will travel to Colorado Springs for a Saturday, January 27, match up against Air Force. The CSU game is set to begin at 7 p.m. while the Falcon game is set to tip off at 2 p.m.

Wyoming is currently 12-5 overall and 3-2 in MWC play after a 71-47 win against the San Diego State Aztecs and a 66-51 victory over the TCU Lady Frogs last week. They are led by Justyna Podziemska who is averaging a team leading 14.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. Junior forward Hanna Zavecz follows with 14.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists, while Jodi Bolerjack is adding 10.9 points. The Cowgirls are shooting 394-913 (.432) from the field, 134-369 (.363) from beyond the arc and 210-271 (.778) from the free throw line. They currently rank first in the Mountain West Conference in three-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage.

The Rams are currently 6-12 overall and 1-5 in the MWC. They are led by senior Molly Nohr (Moraga, Calif.) who is averaging 11.6 points and 4.6 points. She is followed by Sara Hunter (Ft. Collins, Colo.) who is adding 10.2 points and 4.4 rebounds. Marilyn Moulton is the leading rebounder for the Rams with 8.5 per game. They return two starters and four letterwinners to a team that went 9-20 overall and 2-14 in the MWC a year ago. The Cowgirls and the Rams have met 73 times previously in this series. CSU leads the series 40-33. The last time the two teams met was February 25, 2006 in Ft. Collins. Wyoming came away with the 78-71 victory. They are coached by Jen Warden who is in her second season with the program and her fifth as a head coach.

They will close out the weekend by taking on the Air Force Academy Falcons who are currently 4-13 overall and 0-6 in the Mountain West Conference. Air Force will play the UNLV Lady Rebels this week before facing the Cowgirls. They are led by Alecia Steele who is averaging 12.1 points and 8.4 rebounds. She is followed by Pamela Findley who is adding 11.2 points and 5.5 rebounds a contest. They return four starters and 13 letterwinners to a team that went 13-15 overall and 4-12 in the MWC a year ago. The Cowgirls and the Falcons have met 29 times previously in this series. Wyoming leads the series 27-2. The last time the two teams met was February 11, 2006. Wyoming won the game by a final of 59-33. They are coached by Ardie McInelly who is in her sixth season with the program.
