The Wyoming women's basketball team will step out on the road to close out the week as they take on the Air Force Falcons, on Saturday, Jan. 26. The game is set to tip-off at 2:00 p.m. at Clune Arena in Colorado Springs. Live stats and audio can be found at www.gowyo.com.
Wyoming is currently 14-4 overall and 3-2 in MW play after a 22-point win, 76-54, over UNLV on Wednesday night. Four of five starters are averaging double-figures led by Chaundra Sewell. She is averaging 14.8 points and a league leading 9.7 rebounds. Kayla Woodward follows with 14.2 points and 5.9 rebounds while Kaitlyn Mileto is adding 11.9 points. Senior Ashley Sickles is chipping in 11.7 points and 6.0 boards as well.
The Cowgirls are first in the league in scoring offense (71.7 ppg) and assists (15.2 aspg). They are also shooting 461-1021 (.452) from the field and 120-318 (.377) from beyond the arc. Both rank first in the league. In Mountain West games, they are first in free throw percentage and assists, second in scoring offense (71.4 ppg) and field goal percentage (133-305, .436), third in scoring defense (60.4 ppg) and blocked shots (3.4 bpg).
Air Force is 2-15 overall and 1-3 in conference action. They are led by Alicia Leiprandt who is averaging 11.9 points plus 3.7 rebounds. Dymond James follows with 9.2 points and 7.2 rebounds. They return four starters and 11 letterwinners to a team that went 6-24 overall and 1-13 in the MW a year ago.
This will be the 42nd meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 39-2. The last time the two teams met was Feb. 15, 2012 as the Cowgirls defeated the Falcons 71-58 in Colorado Springs. Air Force is coached by Andrea Williams who is in her third season with the program.
