The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball team will open up the week on the road as they travel to the state of Colorado. They will face the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Wednesday, January 28. The game time is set for 7 p.m. at Clune Arena.
The Cowgirls will enter this game with a 9-9 overall record and 1-4 in Mountain West Conference play after earning their first league victory of the season over Colorado State, 64-61, on Saturday afternoon. Emma Langford recorded a team high 18 points, while Hillary Carlson recorded her second double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds.
Four Cowgirls are scoring in double-figures so far this season led by senior Megan McGuffey with 11.7 points per game. Hillary Carlson follows with 10.8 points along with Kristen Scheffler's 10.6 points and Emma Langford with 10.5 points per game. McGuffey also leads the way with 6.1 rebounds per contest.
McGuffey ranks 12th in scoring and 13th in rebounding in the MWC, while Scheffler leads the league in three-point field goals made (2.61 tpfgm), while being ranked 20th in scoring. Carlson continues to make a mark as she is third in field goal percentage and 19th in scoring.
Air Force comes into the game with a 4-14 overall mark and a 0-5 record in the MWC this season. Raimee Beck leads the way with 12.9 points and 5.8 rebounds, while Brooke Cultra is adding 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds.
They return three starters and six letterwinners to a team that went 10-19 overall and 4-12 in the MWC a year ago. This is the 34th meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 31-2, and has won the last seven meetings. The last time the two teams met was February 16, 2008 as the Cowgirls defeated Air Force, 60-32, in Laramie. The Falcons are coached by Ardie McInelly who is in her eighth season with the program and her 13th overall.
